Pipe Suitability Calculation Request
When selecting a suitable pipe for use as a collector drain (P1, P2 or P3) or carrier drain (P4 or P5) in the cess, 6ft or as an Under track Crossing (UTX), as shown in Network rail Standard Detail NR/CIV/SD/322, there are several factors that must be considered.
Calculated in accordance with BS 9295:2020
The following parameters are site specific and will have an impact on the suitability of each pipe type:
- Buried Depth,
- Native Soil Type and Modulus (E'₃),
- Soil Density,
- Backfill class & compaction; Bed & Surround,
- Installation type; UTX, Cess or 6ft Drain,
- Installation location (horizontal offset) relative to the running edge; for Cess & 6ft applications,
- Trench Width; typically Pipe OD + 300mm for Network Rail schemes,
- Maximum permissible deflection; NR/L2/CIV/044/04 section 8.4.4 states "without excessive or permanent deformation or collapse"
